On Nov.30,2014,"Share Love", Free Lunch Campaign was held in Classroom 431, No.1
School Building, GuangDong Polytechnic Normal University ,Baiyun District. The
sharing session went successfully and the audients were moved to tears.
Part One: A "Share Love" Speech
Qiu Yu Pan was the keynote speaker of the sharing session.First, she explained
what Free Lunch was and told storiesof Free Lunch Campaigns. Second, she
introduced the Free Lunch volunteer group in Guangzhou and the Free Lunch
Station on campus of GuangDong. At last, in order for the students to know
better about Free Lunch, two introduction videos, Free Lunch and the New
Year's Film about motivating the college students into volunteer activities,
were played.
After watching the New Year's Film,my feelings toward Free Lunch were totally
different. Before I joined the organization,I considered the film a good
introduction to the program. Now,I was touched watching it.I could feel the
painstaking work put into establishing the volunteer stations by the
predecessors, and the **struggle felt by the volunteers while trying to provide
hot meals to the innocent children in the rural areas. What they gave was their
leisure time, but they received love in return.
Part Two : Interview
In the interview session, I interviewed three volunteers of the volunteer station
on campus. Their names were Qiu Yu Pan, Li Nan Shen and Rong Rong Li. They were
sincere and honest in their answers, and the audience erupted in applause.
Qui Yu Pan:" When you do your part for the public benefit, more effort you make
and the more volunteers you meet, the more you will find everything and everyone
interesting."She is right. I think there are some differences between those who
have dedicated themselves to public service and those who have not. For example,
even though it was the first time we met, I found those volunteers were so warm-
hearted that we felt like we were a family.
Li Nan Shen:"Free Lunch kind of opened a window for me to look into a bigger
world. And the view in the new world, outside the window, is even more
beautiful." As for me, Free Lunch has opened a window for me too. I have known
some fancy new things through the window. I have met so many talented students
and volunteers and learned so many things from them. Free Lunch indeed brightens
up my life.
Rong Rong Li:" Feeling at ease! Serving the public makes me feel at ease!"
Indeed, many people desire to gain this at-ease-feeling. As long as we have a
warm heart and do things by taking a step at a time, we will have enriched our
lives.
Part Three : Free Talk
Wei Ma shared what she had experienced in Red Cross. She expressed her
thoughts from the bottom of her heart. During her speech, she broke into tears in
public for the first time. I have known her for a year and I know that she is a
very rational person. Crying in front of a lot of people is the last thing she
would do. However, at the moment, I was touched by her too. When she shared her
feelings and pressures that have been underneath her chest for so long, I felt
for her and broke into tears. What's more, when I found out that such a rational
person could be touched to cry, I can truly understand what Mr.Fei Deng has said
:"Mildness changes China." and what Bi Shumin has said:"Mildness is more powerful
than boldness”. I think the intention behind the two quotes is that everyone has
mercy ,and even though the help we offered is trivial, we can receive lots of
love.
Ming Xian Zhang, an officer of the Youth association in the Management College in
GuangDong Polytechnic Normal University, expressed his views. He mentioned, the
resources in China were not balanced from area to area. Free Lunch as a
professional non-profit organization, can provide the left-behind children in
Rural areas with nutritious meals. He also hoped that via learning the successful
pattern of this sharing session, we could continue to hold more and more
sessions. Pan Ye, Member of Management Committee in Free Lunch, once said:” The
reason that we keep publicizing Free Lunch is not only for attracting more and
more warm-hearted people to join us, but also for them to know about more non-
profit organizations and find ones that fit them most.As a college student, I
felt honor to influence my classmates to become volunteers.
In addition, he illustrated how a small good deed can produce a large effect,
through the use of an example. He was doing research with his senior high
classmates at that time. One day, when he was walking pass an elevator in the
subway, he found that everyone, no matter if they were *entering or exiting,
clumped together in the center. He and his classmates started to guide people
entering the elevator to the left and those exiting to the right. The small good
deed they did greatly enhanced the order of those using the elevator.
Part Four: After the session ended
After the whole session was over, many students choose to stay and continued to explore what was inside the public service with volunteers help. The students and the volunteers also exchanged contacts for further communication. Meanwhile, a lot of students showed great passion to join the Free Lunch Station in campus. Those adorable students all have an altruistic thought and want to contribute their part to provide hot meals to the children in Rural areas.
