On December 30, 2015, Deng Fei, Free Lunch Fund’s founder, led his team and the volunteers from Yongzhou Xiangnan Hospital to the elementary school of Xiangxiadong. They brought hot, fresh lunches and many gifts to the 200 students in the school. The kids were so happy about the hot meals they got.
Free Lunch Program Started in Luguan Kindergarden
Dai Xuyang, the president of Yongzhou Xiangnan Hospital,is also a good friend of Deng Fei. He heard that the kids in the mountain didn’t have lunch and he said he would like to work with Free Lunch Program and provide help to the kids.
At 8:30 A.M. on the 30th, Deng Fei and his team went in Xiangnan Hospital, unveiled the nameplate for the volunteering activity center of Free Lunch Fund in Yongzhou with Dai Xuyang. Since then, Xiangnan Hospital became a strong strength for Free Lunch Fund in Youngzhou.

At 10 o’clock, staffs of Free Lunch Program, volunteers, the government of Ningyuan and donators, came to the school. More than 200 kids in the school could get free lunch today at school. The school prepared 3 dishes and a soup for each student, which is about 4 Yuan per meal.

This was the first time that Free Lunch Fund went to Yaoxiang in Hunan province. People from the village came and volunteered at the school. The president of Luguan Elementary school, Huang Jingxu, said before the lunch, “The love from the society provides warmth for the kids even in the cold winter. We would pass on this love, and be grateful about it.”
Free Lunch Fund does not only solve the lunch problem for the students, but also releases the time of the parents. Some parents rent houses near the school in order to let the kids eat on time. But the houses are simple and crude. It just has a bed, a table, several seats and some cooks. Now, parents don’t need to rent the house anymore. They can work during the day time without worrying about their kids’ meals. Zhu Degui, a mum said, “Thanks for the Free Lunch, I will work harder to make money and try to improve my life.”

Going into the crowded classroom, the kids seemed to be very excited. They showed the reporter their meals, “This is duck, carrot, and ribs. All my favorite!” But a little boy just sat near the window and ate his lunch. The teacher told the reporter, “He lives with his grandma. He could only drink water to try not be hungry before. But now, he doesn’t need to starve anymore.”
In the mountains, kids like him who live with their grandparents all the time can have many problems. For them, they not only need substance, but also company. Deng Fei said, “Free Lunch only solves the problem of their meals. Our volunteers would care for them more mentally.” In the afternoon on the 30th, the government of Ningyuan and Deng Fe’s team had a forum about the development of economic in Ningyuan. Ningyuan became a working partner with Hope Farm. Hu Xinruo, member of the CPPC, vice country magistrate of Ningyuan, said, “Welcome Deng Fei and his team to Ningyuan to propelling the development of child welfare and Ningyuan’s economy.” And he praised that Free Lunch is “a group of young people sharing the burdens of the country”.
